A COUNTRY DANCE
*****with a free for all fight
There was a revival of the country dance of "the good old times"
out in Big Island township Thursday night.
It ended up with an all-round fight and was made picturesque
with the exchange of shots. Isaiah Mewhorter undertook to entertain
the country folks with a ****** and all was going along as merry
as a marriage bell until trouble arose, ****signed by Archie Annett, Winters Annett
and Hiram Annett, father and two sons.
Mewhorter says that he undertook to put the Arnetts out,
their presence having become undesirable, when a general fight was precipitated.
The Annetts finally got outside. Axes and revolvers
were brought into use, the Annetts shouting and throwing clubs and axes
through the windows, while Mewhorter entertained himself
by shooting outside. The result was the shooting of one
of the Annetts in the leg and the semi-destruction of Mewhorter's home.
The latter was in the city today looking after the law on the subject,
intending to confront the Annetts with the charge of assault
with intent to kill. All the parties concerned reside in Big Island township.
